Ryan Rubberstamp Well Inked

Our very own Bush desktop companion, Rep.Paul Ryan had a very busy time in Congress last week.Bush Desktop Companion

1. Paul Ryan has endorsed a measure meant to discourage people from filing lawsuits over religious displays in public buildings. He rubberstamped bill HR 2679, which would stop the courts from reimbursing the legal costs to plaintiffs who WIN their cases.

2. Ryan fully supports the Bush war in Iraq and rubberstamped another “one-time appropriation” to pay for the efforts. The bill HR5631 would redirect another $70 billion away from American schools, communities and jobs and waste it in Iraq and Afghanistan. The $70 billion earmark is not for the full year 2007, it covers only six months. This was tied into the defense spending bill of nearly a half-trillion dollars for fiscal 2007.

3. He then rubberstamped a Bush request to give the president the power to torture POW’s, enemy combatants and detainees. The bill HR 6166 contained a useless affirmation of the Geneva Conventions while giving the president the discretion to violate international law in the name of a broadly defined "national security".

4. Ryan rubberstamped bill HR 5825, another Bush request to spy/eavesdrop on domestic emails and phonecalls for up to 90 days without court warrants. This bill was not limited to foreign incoming calls as the president once explained necessary, but was expanded to include surveillance on all Americans.

5. Finally, Ryan helped defeat a Democratic motion to consider a new National Intelligence Estimate to include the latest assessment of 16 intelligence agencies which concluded that the U.S. military eforts in the middle-east has fueled more terrorism.

Once upon a time, people would be outraged by all this, but not anymore. The Party of Lincoln has been hi-jacked. The Left including true Conservatives know this. As far as I'm concerned its not worth saving, let the ship sink.

The democrats have had 40 years to "fix" the healthcare problems and the other issues they always seem to comeback on. What have they done in that 40 years? It seems not really that much since they still beat that drum and say that it needs to be fixed but, they don't have a plan to fix it. They say they do but, they won't tell you what it is they will do. On the other hand republicans have offered that HSA's (health savings accounts) as an alternative to healthcare. It may not be the best solution for everyone but, it is an alternative. The company I work for has health insurance in the form of MSA's and it really is a nice approach. The deductables are higher but, my company contributes to the HSA. I don't put any money of my own into it. The company puts enoough money a year into the HSA to cover the cost of the deductible. I actually go to the doctors office and ask them how much the visit is going to cost. They seem suprised that someone would actually ask how much a visit is going to cost them. This gives me leverage in my own health plan instead of some big insurance company telling me which doctor I can go see and what procedures are covered. If I don't use the money in the account I can save it for retirement. It works for my family and I really well. I have been in the HSA for 6 years now and we haven't had any problems with it and I have built up a nice little nest egg for retirement. I used to work at a company that had the standard health insurance with a deductable they took money out of my weekly checks to cover this. I never reached my deductable in the 10 years I worked there. I threw away all the weekly money that each week came out of my check. With a HSA that money goes into an account and if I don't use it it's still there in the future collecting intrest. The checks I write for doctor visits comes off of my deductible say a doctor visit is $100 and my deductible is $3500 when I write the check my deductible is now $3400. It's my money and it's my choice of what I want done to my body and what I want to pay for the procedures. I even get discounts on percriptions usually 40-50% discounts.

I'm glad HSA's work for you, but they are not for everyone.
What happens if you (God forbid) have a stroke or a heart attack and are stuck in the hospital for 20 days? Can you afford to pay the $115,000 bill from your health nest egg? What would happen if your child falls down the stairs while your in the hospital and breaks his shoulder, tears his cornea and lays in a coma for four days? Do you have the additional $38,000?
I would buy into retirement savings accounts only if they are in addition to the safeguards we already have such as Social Security. I would do the same with HSA's but only after Democrats take control of Congress and develop a form of universal health care in addition to HSA's.
Our country can afford a basic universal health coverage for everyone, and those who demand/afford better can pay the extra premium. That leaves out about 85% of the population.
I think health care coverage is the second most pressing issue facing our country, hospital and medical costs are way out of line. No one regardless of income should ever be financially wiped out when a health crisis strikes.

The HSA pays for 100% of medical costs after the deductible is paid for. Just like normal health insurance. If I don't use it the money is saved into an account. That means if I have a stroke I use the money in my HSA and pay for the $3500 deductible and then the rest is paid by the insurance. Just like a normal health insurance plan.

This sounds like a standard health insurance policy with a HIGH deductible. If your company pays for the HSA insurance and pays the deductible and you pay nothing, sure, it sounds good, too good.

Obviously there is something missing here, Republicans don't push health plans unless their are larger profits guaranteed for the industry.

Nothing missing here just a good health plan for myself and my family. A way I can make sure my family is taken care of and on the way put some money aside for retirement. Money that is mine and I won't have to rely on the government's social security flawed program that probably will be broke by the time I retire. What's the democrats solution for the raising healthcare costs? I haven't seen anything except that the HSA's are bad.
