Republican Rag Cleaning Up?

After punishing myself with the Janesville Gazette for the past ten years, I found myself somewhat puzzled by the political focus of both Sundays and Mondays paper. Sundays editorial not only concluded with a reference to liberal populist Al Gore’s documentary about global warming titled, “An Inconvenient Truth” but they actually recommended it. The Gazette, in all of their support for Republican style wild west economics and deregulated industrial expansion somehow find it acceptable to recommend something that exposes the inconvenient consequences of their profits.

Also, in their infamously popular Sound Off column they allowed rare truths about Lieberman and Bush. Though they were placed at the top of the column, both appeared to be genuine but nevertheless negative, which means the Gazette used them against each other in sort of a cynical ploy to confuse readers. The column contained no positive comments about Feingold, Doyle or Democrats in general, and that is what really mattered.

On Monday they finally ran a real article about Mark Greens horrible voting record in Congress on ethics reform and placed it in proper perspective, at the top of the local section. The Associated Press laid out the time-line of his votes which clearly show Green changed his mind about reform once he decided to run for Wisconsin governor. The Gazette, and I don’t know why they did this, ran two nearly identical articles about Green side by side under the heading,” Is Green for or against ethics reform?” and somehow managed to overkill the subject. To my knowledge, this was the first time they ran a reality based article about one of their own and in nervous indecision may have stumbled over their own feet. Noticeably absent were comments from the “other” side for a rebuttal/perspective, which is always done to convey fairness.

All of this can confuse a reader and give the impression the Gazette is finally printing balanced news or that they are indeed changing. The bottom line for a political tool like the Gazette will be seen through their endorsements. We’ll see exactly where they stand politically in the state and in Rock County, and only then will we know if the Gazette has learned anything from their past failed endorsements and is ready to move forward. Personally, I doubt it.

Al Gore on global warming. What the heck does Al Gore know about gobal warming? Is he Dr. Al Gore? He did invent the internet so, I guess he is a smart guy. Al Gore just needs to go away. The democrats threw Lieberman under the bus (al's running mate) why don't they throw this wacko under the bus as well?

Granted, Al Gore doesn't have any degee's, certificates or diploma's on climatology or chemistry which means "he must be wrong." All the whiners and complainers need to just go away, things can never be any better than they are today.

Good Ole' Al I guess we should believe him since he is "AL GORE". Isn't it odd that the tempurature of the Atlantic ocean has been dropping the past twenty years? Global Warming? I doubt it.

Zillions of people have the damage to the ozone layer and global warming mixed. Somebody is right, and somebody is wrong, I'll go with Gore and J.J. everytime.
