At the top of the sidebar in today’s Gazette, they printed what amounts to be a political ad for Paul Ryan. The article also ran on the front page of the local section. It mentioned that thanks to Ryan, GM workers could add to their benefits at GM.
I really don’t know the specifics to the plan as the paper was rather vague about it. But the paper was fairly specific about heaping the praise onto Ryan, and even included a little passage that Ryan went out of his way and bucked the party and the White House to slug it out for the union workers. Just a few months before the elections, it looks like Ryan is already trying to distance himself from the unpopular and failing Bush Administration he’s been working with for so long. The subtitle “Ryan’s changes will protect autoworkers” was just too much. The article implied that Ryan protected the pensions, saved the taxpayers money and saved GM billions. Political campaign ads pretending to be new's articles just don’t get any better than that.

Just once I'd like to know the real reasons for things like this being passed. What is tacked on in the small print? I find it hard to believe that this was passed to help the working man. Politicians haven't done anything for the working man in along time. The fact that they had to pass a bill to make companies pay promised/negotiated pensions is sad. Maybe the companies are getting another tax break or some sort of incentive to actually fund the pensions. I find it hard to believe this would go thru without something attached for them.
Paul Ryan is helping the people in his district. Nothing more. That's what congressmen do or are suppose to do. They help the people of their district. To blame the whitehouse for this is another liberal tactic which is getting real old.
Republican info-mercials are nothing new for the Gazette and Paul Ryan's their number one beneficiary. UAW members are well aware of Ryan's motives for supporting this legislation. His labor voting record is so bad that this latest scam won't help him a bit in November with autoworkers. But we'll take his yes vote anyway.
Ryan is brutal when it comes to the interests of the common classes. Obviously this recent pension bill can't satisfy everyone (taxpayer,GM,workers). Someone took a beating here. Does anybody know?
Yeah, the workers got the right to donate money into their own pensions, while companies like GM can shift their profits if any from the workers to investors. Such a deal!
Public traded company. Capitalism at work. The companies need to please the investors.
Once upon a time but not too long ago, it was the employee who benefited from the success of the company. Living wages, profit sharing and full benefits were graciously rewarded. Somehow, about 25 years ago, things began to change, unions were busted, free trade as opposed to fair trade is embraced, pensions are no longer honored. Companies are now run by accountants who sacrifice personnel and product to satisfy what amounts to interest on uninsured promissory notes to gamblers.
Maybe that's why so many people feel that the country is headed in the wrong direction. The American dream is gone.
