Curious Editorial Cartoon

Who is this meant to target, and what reaction is it supposed to provoke? I am aware of the movie and the plot. Perhaps it's only me that doesn't get it?

It's a clever cartoon. The silhouette of the running man is taken from the movie where he is running away from danger. So is he running away from the white house or towards it?

I agree, it doesn't have anything to do with the movie except to use the name and image. It seems meant to rile up the GOP base against the democratic wave of change they can't stop. But painting it as threatening.

Exactly!! The message is, surrender to a threat....however you may perceive it, but the GOP candidate and his supporters won't surrneder and are are not part of the threat. Divisive and clever.

That is sort of what I'm thinking. But I tried to visualize Edward Kennedy, Byrd and the Dem candidate, Obama or Clinton, and the feeling changed. Oh,well.

I have enjoyed your comments, When I stumbled onto this blog about 10 days ago I was surprised by the lack of comment. On subject; the image and dialogue is very dark and fear full. I think it would appeal to those who feared the black helicopters during the Clinton administration and buried munitions and mre's prior to Y2K. Ironically the rise of vigilante defense contractors like Black water emerged during the Bush administration along with the erosion of civil liberty. I believe the image was meant to bait the ultra right wing members of our society. Like Milton said " rile up a GOP base". I am in complete agreement with g.g. the GOP candidate may be old school but I doubt he would endorse a campaign of fear given his experience as a POW. So what was the motive of the Janesville Gazette and it's sole owner for printing a potentially inflammatory graphic?

When I first started this blog, comments came fast and furious but eventually evolved into a repetition of non-sense and hate from a few anonymous commenters. I decided to cut off purely anonymous comments by at least asking for a google account. Comments dropped off from that point to near zero. But ironically, personal e-mails, mostly friendly and encouraging shot up. Page hits and returning visitors also are climbing steadily. I just recently re-opened the anonymous commenting without announcing it.

People are reading and I do appreciate it, they're just not commenting.

The main thing is to continue and remain on-message.
