JG Sound Off excerpt:I have to assume the caller is comparing Foley to Clinton. There is a huge difference between a man (Clinton) who has an affair with a woman of consensual age and lies about it in an effort to protect his marriage and a man who reaches out to teenage boys and implies sexual contact AND others lie about it to protect their political interests. Some in the GOP have tried to spin Foley’s problem as alcohol-related. Have you ever been so drunk that you wanted to sex up a 16-year-old boy? While still others seem to think that the teenage boys were democratic moles planning to entrap Foley just before the elections, as the anonymous rant implied.
Some of the truth is coming out about who was holding on to this information until it would effect the election. Why is it looked upon as a private matter for a Democrat and a career ending blow for a Republican? Who saves text messages? Sounds like a frame-up. Republicans should be mad as hell. - anonymous
JG Sound Off excerpt:
I’m appalled and shocked that you (Janesville Gazette) have tucked Mark Foley, the House Republican Congressmen article, back on pages 3A and 8A Wednesday. If this would have been anybody else, it would have been front page news everyday. Because he’s a Republican and being tucked away into a rehabilitation center, he is in denial of his pedophile acts. - anonymous
I agree, the low coverage this Republican scandal has gotten in our local papers is one of the reasons why this blog even exists. But not only is Mark Foley in denial of his pedophile acts, the Gazette like much of the right-wing media is in denial too.

Foley is the only one at fault. He actually didn't do anything illegal. But, it is a disgrace and very ethnically wrong. At least he stepped down hours after the scandal was uncovered. A similier case in 1983 with former reprensenative Stubbs a democrat actually had sexual relations with a 17 year old male page and stayed in the congress for 14 more years. It is odd that the republicans are heald to different standards then the democrats. If foley was a democrat I believe he would still have his job and the democrats would be ralling around him saying he had a problem and he needed help.
Republicans should be held to a different standard after all, they are the party of morals and values and as some think, the party of God.
It is a personal problem for Foley, the man needs help, but the issue here is that possibly up to ten fellow Republicans knew of his problem and did nothing about it. Now the party is paying the price they deserve.
My question is how many democrats knew about this before and now leaked the information a month before the elections? The party of no morals the democratic party. They can't seem to stand for anything so they have to attack their opponents. Whatever it takes for the democrats lie, cheat and steal elections that's the only way they seem to get control.
The Dems make mistakes and admit it when they're wrong. They are the party of human beings.
The only person at fault is Foley himself. He's done end of story.
What about Harry Reid's sleazy land deal? He made a 245% profit on the deal. More than the oil companies percentage of profits.
To anonomous 8:30p.m Harry Reid hasn't admitted guilt. Bill Clinton never admitted guilt or that he even did anything wrong. Senator Kennedy never admitted guilt when he killed that woman when he was driving drunk and left her to die. Gov. Doyle hasn't admitted what he did with state contracts was wrong. Heck he even let the attorney general drive a state vehicle drunk into a ditch and still keep her job. I guess he feels she didn't do anything wrong.
IF Harry Reid is guilty of a Republican style greed crime, he should be hung. But come on Jimdaddy, if Doyle is responsible for the AG drunk driving, then why can't we hold Bush responsible for the crimes of a few soldiers at Abu Grhaib?
Doyle could have very well stepped in and disaplined Peg "i'm a drunk" lautenshlager. He's the gov. of the state. You lefties did hold Bush accountible to the abu graib chrimes don't you remember louis? Who's under federal investigation? Who is the guy who has a state no bid contracts that have gone to the highest contributor of his campaign. Doyle is a sleaze ball and he doesn;t deserve a second term in the mansion. He's a disgrace to Wisconsin's morals and values. An ethnically challenged man isn't good for Wisconsin.
What would disipline do? These are grown people. Peggy is responsible for herself, and answers to no one. But the soldiers in Abu Grhaib are under direct orders from their superiors. BIG DIFFERENCE. Every step Bush takes needs Supreme Court intervention or a complete 200 page investigation.
Doyle is innocent until proven guilty. If he's found to be as crooked as Republicans, they should hang 'em. The only thing people have against him are the bogus accusations. Green is the guy who defies the law, and would be in over his head as governor.
It seems again that the ethnically challenged Doyle has yet again been bought. This time in Milwaukee to a construction outfit that gave Doyle some $30,000 in campaign contributions. But, it only mad the third page in the gazette. I bet if it was a republican that was doing the disgusting things that Doyle has been doing it would be in the front page every night. Seems the demorats can get away with this kind of fraud. Green didn't break ANY laws. Learn the laws before you write what you think it may help in your arguement.
Louis has green guilty until he has had his day in court but, Doyle is innocent until proven guilty. Typical leftie hypocrite.
If it only made the third page of the Gazette, you know it's a complete fabrication and baseless. It shouldn't have been printed in the first place.
Green was asked to withdraw the $468,000. He's appealing the decision, blah, blah, blah.
Green hails from the party of corruption, but it's his political beliefs and record in Congress that has him guilty of making poor decisions. He will destroy Wisconsin. Doyle is flat out a better man.

THE DOYLE RAP SHEET
Bruce Murphy has the details on Diamond Jim's latest sleazy deal...
Since the MSM is snoozing and the "watchdogs" are too busy licking themselves, the RPW has put together its own handy reference guide to the most corrupt governor in Wisconsin history.
It's a long post, so curl up in front of a warm fire with a loved one, and share......
Some of the many, many, many scandals of Jim Doyle:
* Doyle remains under investigation by State, Federal and County authorities.
* The Waukesha County District Attorney is investigating whether Doyle's campaign broke open meeting laws when they rigged a vote against Mark Green on the State Elections Board.
* In the middle of a federal probe, Christopher Kelly, a politically connected fundraiser and top advisor to the also ethically-challenged Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, gave Doyle the maximum allowed by Wisconsin law, $10,000, on June 24, 2006. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, federal prosecutors list Kelly as "Individual B" in a 24-count indictment against another top fundraiser for Blagojevich, Tony Rezko. Rezko was recently indicted in the scheme to steer campaign donations to the troubled Illinois governor and extort companies seeking business in Illinois for profit. (MJS 10/13/06)
* Gambling interests have funneled nearly another $1 million in cash to Doyle, rewarding him for his 180 degree turn on the issue of casino gambling. (MJS 9/27/06)
* Philadelphia Attorneys deliver $10,000 to Doyle's campaign the same day they meet on state property with Doyle's top aide Marc Marotta. According to Doyle's own campaign, the meeting was arranged by Doyle's fundraiser. (MJS 7/7/06)
* The über-liberal Madison weekly paper The Isthmus gave Doyle an "F" for good-government.
* Doyle campaigned with the equally ethically challenged Bob Mendez. The New Jersey Senator is under a federal investigation. Democrats have even considered replacing Menedez on the ballot because of all his baggage. www.bobsbaggage.com
* A company that Jim Doyle gave a no-bid $685,000 contract to create a website donated another $17,684 to his campaign. (MJS 7/24/06)
That same company donated $47,000 to Doyle's coffers before they got the no-bid sweetheart deal. (MJS 11/24/04)
* A member of Jim Doyle's administration was convicted of two felony counts of steering a bid to a big money campaign donor. Adelman Travel should have lost the bid under the state's bidding process, but $20,000 in campaign cash seems to have put them over the top. Doyle finally cancelled the bid, but has continued to keep the campaign money. (WSJ 1/25/06)
* Two weeks after a jury proved his administration rigged the bidding process for Adelman, Doyle hit up the travel company for another $250 in donations. (TCT 7/22/06)
* An executive from the Hunger Task Force was approached by Doyle's campaign to give money, right after her agency submitted a grant application to Doyle's office. She donated and her group received a $50,000 grant from Doyle. (MJS 4/25/02)
* According to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Doyle has raised more than $1 million from outside contributors, mainly from Illinois. http://www.wisdc.org/pr071806.php
* Doyle accepted $236,842 from a group trying to build a casino in Kenosha. Thanks to his vetoes, Doyle remains the sole elected official in Wisconsin who could approve the deal. http://www.wisdc.org/pr071806.php
* At least seven companies who received no-bid contracts from Jim Doyle donated $32,050 to his campaign (AP 2/14/06)
* Taxpayers are paying a $10,000 Doyle donor $230 an hour to get money already owed to them by gambling interests. (AP 1/6/06)
* Utility executives donated $43,650 to get Jim Doyle's Public Service Commission to reverse an earlier decision and allow the sale of a nuclear power plant. State investigators interviewed PSC employees for several hours about the deal. Two of the three PSC members are Doyle appointees, one is married to his campaign fundraiser...another former PSC high ranking staffer is now working on the governor's re-election campaign. (WJS 5/10/06, MJS 12/21/05, GB PG 12/29/05)
* On February 10, 2004, Doyle's chief of staff met with executives of an out-of-state power company that was attempting to buy the Kewaunee nuclear power plant. Doyle's chief of staff then called a Doyle appointee and key member of the Public Service Commission. Shortly before that meeting, executives from that power company donated $2,000 to Doyle's re-election campaign. Those officials donated more than $43,000 to Doyle - the bulk of the cash coming in right around the time of the PSC's change of heart.
* Personal injury attorneys donated $20,500 to Doyle's campaign in the same month that Doyle vetoed a bill that would have limited their access to jackpot juries in medical malpractice cases (WSJ 2/21/06)
* According to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Crowe Chizek secured a $6.7 million deal from Doyle and shortly after, proceeded to donated $17,500 to the governor's re-election bid. Equis donated $27,250 to Doyle around the time they were awarded a deal from the state that paid them $2.6 million plus expenses including an unheard of 25% cut on property they sell for the state. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, most real estate firms usually get less than 10% in similar deals. (TCT 3/27/06, MJS 3/27/06)
* A yacht making company donated $5,000 to Doyle's campaign right around the time it received a $2.1-million state grant. (AP 2/2/06)
* Jim Doyle continues to hang on to as much as $45,000 from an improper fundraiser organized by DOT employees. (MJS 11/10/05)
* Executives at a development firm gave Doyle $8,000 two months before Doyle voted to provide $13.2 million in funding for a project the firm was working on. The loan was the largest the board ever approved. (MJS 8/27/02)
* A Hollywood producer gave Doyle $10,000 just weeks after Doyle issued a $250,000 grant in that producer's name for a pet cause. (MJS 2/13/02) An independent campaign watchdog called Doyle's spin "unconvincing" (WDC release 6/17/02)
* Gambling interests funneled one million dollars in the weeks before the 2002 election through the Democratic Party to skirt Wisconsin's campaign laws. The Party then spent most of that money on campaign ads for Doyle. Doyle then rewarded those gambling interests with unlimited, lifetime compacts. (MJS 2/20/03)
* According to The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Governor Doyle's administration awarded an $18.4-million contract for work on the Marquette Interchange to Chicago's CTE Engineers in February of 2005. Shortly after this, the governor holds an out-of-state fundraiser with CTE and three of its partners in the contract, that nets him $20,000. Doyle's campaign also netted another $12,000 from other Chicago area contributors that same day. The paper pointed out that most of those donors had never donated before. One donor admitted to not even knowing who is the governor of Wisconsin. (MJS 1/28/06)
* A major insurance company donated $28,500 to Doyle's campaign to get the governor to turn a blind eye to a controversial merger that created the largest health insurer in the United States. Several other states objected to the merger, campaign cash helped make sure Wisconsin did not. (MJS 2/5/05)
* The Journal Sentinel reported in June that Doyle picked five of the 12 charitable groups that received grants from a $6.3 million lawsuit settlement with vitamin manufacturers instead of relying on the advisory committee he established to make selections. Individuals connected to at least six of the groups chosen made contributions to Doyle's campaign for governor. (MJS 10/23/02)
Jimbo, that is a pretty lame "cut and paste" job you put here. At one dinner Bush received over 1.5 million dollars in contributions. What's the deal with that? Green had over 3 million dollars in his campaign chest, how many greasy, slimy kickbacks and votes did he trade? All of the reports you listed are legal. The system is corrupt and it will get only worse under Green.
I had to cut and paste that there was just so much there it was easier to cut and paste it than to type it all in. I haven't seen any scandals that Green has gotten from campaign donors. I'm sure we would hear about them if there were any. If all those reports are legal then why is he under federal investigation? Why is one of his former administration in prison? It really just doesn't look good no matter how you spin it. I did vote for Doyle the first time around because Maccalum wasn't a good canidate. Doyle also ran on a mostly conservative platform. I actually thought he may be alright. The thing that really upset me about Doyle was the whole Indian gambling lifetime pact. We could have done much better than what he did.
I can't recall Clinton standing at the podium during mid-term elections and blast the Republicans the way Bush does to the democrats. Yeah, Clinton spoke against the Repugs during impeachment proceedings but you can't blame on that one and those were personal soundbites, not these widely televised rants Bush has been doing. I bring this up because Dems should be reporting all repugs financials to the DA's and have everyone under investigation. I really believe that my fellow democrats don't have the same viciousness that the Republicans have toward their fellow Americans, excluding Bush of course.
The system needs reform, Green is not going to reform anything.
Doyles not perfect, but that gambling compact was tested in the courts and it was legal and an improvement from what the Republicans did under Thompson.
All of these accusations are thrown about because of the tremendous push from the RNC and without them, Green would have about 10 - 15% of the vote. Throw out all the smut from both sides and Doyle is a clear winner.
CLinton got hit hard after he lied to the American people under oath about his affair with Lewimski. Bush has been getting slammed ever since he took office in 2000. He doesn't really slam democrats he just speaks the truth about them. They as a whole don't have a plan for what to do in Iraq. They all seem to think they have a plan but, they are unwilling to come together on a single plan they can all agree on. This would frustrate anyone. Then you have the media behind you to help to bash the president and it just adds up. I give the president a lot of credit for the way he handles the media and the democrats. I wish the democrats would actually stand together and get something in place. But, they haven't yet and it doesn't look real good. I don't know how anyone with morals and values can actually stand behind Doyle. When you are Govenor or in fact any person that represents the citizens you should NOT put yourself in a position to be even considered to be breaking the law. Mark green has been accused of breaking the law but, Milwaukee's mayor Tom Barrett did the same thing just last year then the democrats know that Green maybe running for Gov. and they switch the rules around. I guess as long as a democrat does it it's ok. I can't support a morally challenged person. I can't support Diamond Jim Doyle. Green will be much better for the Wisconsin people.
The Democrats have to gain the majority in the House and even the Senate to present anything to the people. Nearly all of their bills and initiatives are shut down along party lines. Conversely that is why the Republicans appear to be the party with the plan, everything they present is passed along party lines.
I just can't buy the line that if somebody else broke the law (in my view) it ok for me to do the same and if somebody doesn't like it, I'll remind them of what Barrett did. That's a losing defense all the way.
Our media does not bash the president. Not even close.
O.K lets say a democrat was in office instead of President Bush right now. Keeping everything the same as it is now. Unemployment rate at 4.6%. Intrest rates at around 6%. Homeownership at an all time high and the DOW above 12,000 points. You don't think the media would be just praising the President for the way the economy is? They did it when Clinton was in office and the unemployment rate wasn't even as low as it is now. They also would have been praising the president for pulling America out of a recession in early 2000. I recently saw a survey taken that said 77% of all media has liberal views. That's a pretty big number. You really have to dig to get the otherside of the story. The media may not outright bash Bush but, they certainly try and make him look bad when they have the chance to. The images of Iraq for instance. Have we ever heard about the positive stories coming out of Iraq? The Iraqi's have their own stockmarket up and running. Have you ever heard about that? You would if a democrat was in office. Any war is bad, that's why it's called a war. I feel that with all the neative inages coming out of Afganistan and Iraq that this is actually helping the terrorists. They see that if they blow up a car in a market and it kills 3 people it will make headlines here in the states. They aren't stupid they use our media against us here to their advantage. They are hoping that if we see enough car bombings and deaths that we will get the hell out and they can have free reigns.
So, your saying that Doyle is squeaky clean in his no bid contracts? He's under federal investigation what does that look like to people that live outside of Wisconsin? It doesn't look good that's for sure. He's the face of Wisconsin and all you hear is the scandals he's been involved in and how he is under federal investigation. I really don't think that's a good image to have when we are trying to recruit businesses to come into the state and people wanting to live here.
I'm one of few Democrats who does not give Clinton all the credit for the 90's economy. There were a lot of things happening like the dotcom explosion, housing and Y2K consumer driven purchases. I do give him credit for NOT SCREWING IT UP!
I see reports on the mainstream media that are the opposite of your survey. We don't see half of how bad things really are in Iraq and with our economy here at home. There are conflicting numbers daily.
Democrats are for defeating enemies and going to war if necessary, not this war though.
I can't judge Doyle or Green by their negative ads, to me they cancel each other out.
You have to reach out and talk to businesses outside of Wisconsin to get them here. If they throw your campaign money, they do it everywhere. One thing though, someone gave Doyle's campaign $10,000, then complained they got nothing in return.
But you can't say the same for Green. He traded votes in Congress for cash for big money from Big Oil, energy and pharmaceuticals. He is a sell-out!
Well Jim Doyle is a very dishonest lying person. He's a piece of shit. He's dishonest and outright lies. But, I guess most of Wisconsinites are just as dumb voting for this fool. I hope Van Hollen takes him to court. I hope the feds nail his ass to the wall for the bullshit he has pulled off.
