"He(Doyle) closed the biggest deficit ever and balanced the budget."-- True or false? The Gazette says true, but.........he's a Democrat.
Large fluctuations in state bond ratings occur over a period of time, usually a decade or more. That two or four states have lower bond ratings than Wisconsin is the fruition of the Thompson-Mccallum era, but more so our Republican led state legislature. If the Gazette held our governor to the same fiscal standards they allow President Bush, the paper would ask for a Doyle state holiday and erect a monument for him in front of their building in Janesville. Their rhetoric is strictly partisan.
Whether you believe this or not, the deficits we have today at both the federal and state levels are occurring under the leadership of “conservative” Republicans. They cannot deny this, it is reality. It’s time for a change. The upcoming mid-term election is a rare and golden opportunity for us to change the direction of our country. If there ever was a time to vote a straight Democratic ticket, this is it.
The Gazette then runs an article by the A.P. at the top of the local (B) section about the apparent mud-slinging and negative campaigning of those running for office, but in explaining the issues the challengers just slime the incumbents again.
JG excerpt:
Green campaign spokesman Mark Graul said Green has been talking about issues on the campaign trail, and Doyle keeps corruption in the headlines because he won't answer questions. " The attorney general should be a beacon of ethics in the state. From day one it was going to be an issue,"
If the Republicans can raise dubious questions and spread falsehoods about the Democratic incumbents, they will. Democrats in Wisconsin are being "swiftboated" by the right-wing press and those who want their jobs.

I used to think the Gazette was just a republican rag. Since republicans have fallen from favor the past couple of years, there seems to be no end to what the Gazette will print to protect them. Bashing Democrats is number 1, of course. Their best tactic is to tag Democrats with all the blame that republicans have wraught on us all. Since most republicans are nothing more than narcissists, it can't possibly be their fault. They will go on through life blaming everyone for their problems. I like to think of a republican as someone with one way vision. Whatever they see in front of them, that's what they want. Never mind that a minute ago they were looking the other way and their new view conflicts with the old one. If they do notice, then someone screwed it up; Probably a Democrat.
I think the democrats are calling foul again. To think that the gazette is a republican paper is a farse. They publish all kinds of republican bashing stories and articles. They do get on Doyle sometimes but, this man deserves what he gets in the media he is a snake.
The Gazette rips Democrats apart. Occasionally they do print liberal news because they can't deny reality all the time. Why didn't the Gazette run the Van Hollen/Bucher "you suck" gutterfest in todays paper?
Jim Doyle is the best man to repair the longterm damage inflicted on the state by Thompson and McCallum. Unfortunately, almost twenty years of irresponsibility cannot be cleaned in just four years. Unlike Bush who inherited a surplus and squandered it, Doyle inherited a $3.2 billion deficit from his predecessor which in today's Bush inflated economy would be closer to $5.5 billion. Doyle is smart and has done a phenomenal job considering he has a backward and hostile legislature tripping him up every step of the way and frankly the alternative (Green) is completely unacceptable.
What the state needs to do is give the Governor a forward thinking legislature, people need to clean out the Capital and start voting Democratic.
